Active Excel spreadsheet to calculate the CofG for G-HTFU
The GA8 Airvan Centre of Gravity Calculator is an interactive and dynamic Excel spreadsheet designed to assist pilots in accurately determining the centre of gravity (CG) of the GA8tc Airvan aircraft. This powerful tool simplifies the complex task of calculating the CG position by automating the necessary calculations and providing a user-friendly interface.
None of the fields is locked, so you can change this to suit your Airvan. You must alter the conditional formatting to set your empty weight, max take-off, etc.
In the United Kingdom, the seating allocation determines the number of skydivers we can carry. If an aircraft has 7 seats, we can accommodate 7 skydivers. The weight of each skydiver is calculated at 95kg, and the pilot weighs 85kg.
However, I am aware that certain countries allow skydivers to be carried based on the maximum cargo loading. To account for this, the spreadsheet includes various forms. By utilising precisely known weights, it becomes feasible to transport more than 7 skydivers. Also, using known weights enables the possibility of launching a 4-way formation (without a camera flyer). Typically having one or two skydivers up by the pilot brings CofG well within limits.
